Quick FAQs about Ranks
Please consider reading this as it may have answers to some questions relating to any of the ranks for the server.

This is beneficial for a player who may have simple questions when no staff are present or no players of the server can provide a viable answer.

  • Does a player have to build in order to earn any of the ranks?
    • Yes. A player can only earn any ranks solely by building in the Survival world of the server and that the build(s) must be of their own work from start to finish. Other players may provide assistance by supplying the blocks/resources needed but must not place the blocks unless the build(s) is for a 'Groupie' path.

  • A player believes they do not have the skill to obtain a certain rank.
    • Nonesense. Much like in real life, personal growth varies player to player, and it can be achieved after trial and error. Please consult additional resources such as other players of the server or the interwebs.

  • Can a player copy a build from another source? As in a youtube tutorial or a schematic.
    • Yes. As long as it helps improving a player's building skills; however, please make an effort to modify to the player's preference and not strictly copy block by block unless it is redstone, which is another matter altogether.

  • Relating to redstone, can a player build a calculator/storage for all possible blocks for (Inventor)?
    • Yes and No. It is advised to build redstone in which shows an understanding of redstone; they may build whatever their heart desires but be warned that the build(s) may not count for any rank.

  • What is a quick difference between non-stone related blocks and stone related blocks?
    • This is best described by how a block can be effectively broken by an in-game tool; shears effectively breaks any non-stone related block like wool and leaves while a pick effectively breaks any stone related blocks like prismarine or stone. There are some blocks that ignore this like glass and lighting blocks.

  • Can a player use Wood blocks in a build for a Stone path rank? Or vice versa.
    • Yes. As long as the primary block types used follow the appropriate rank/path requirements.
      • I.e. the build is mostly stone but has wooden supports and leaves will still count towards any 'Stoney' path as long as the wood and leaves used do not exceed the block count for stone used.

  • How long does it take for a player to obtain (Master) and is it worth it?
    • Time is a precious resource; it is up to the player how much time they wish to invest pursuing (Master). The rewards associated for the rank are not phenomenal or unjust, it is a recognition that the player has achieved one of the goals for the server. And a nice custom title is neat.

Tier One
Once a player has achieved (Builder), they may choose from 4 building-oriented play-style paths.

These paths allow for the player to construct builds according to their desired play-style. They may remain on the same path or explore other paths as they build and may only choose up to 1 previously obtained tier/path rank as their current title.

Each path has 3 tiers which have greater rewards and are more difficult to attain.

To be considered for a rank in any of the tiers/paths, build(s) must be completely finished. If they are buildings, they need to be furnished.
It is advised to ask the community for any suggestions towards the build(s) and refer to any designs available within the server or the interwebs. Consulting with staff for opinions will not guarantee rank.
Please note that all builds must be kept as close to original to the player's intentions, not as a copy of another player's work.

The first level or 'tier' of BuildAtNight ranks are:
  • Architect (Woody Path)
  • Miner (Stoney Path)
  • Techie (Redstoney Path)
  • Social (Groupie Path)
If a player feels they have met the requirements for any of the T1 ranks, they may stand near their build and request it to be reviewed by a staff member by typing /ticket Please review my build for (t1 rank)! (or something similar).
Please allow some time for staff to review it.

Permissions include everything available to (Builder) as well as:
  • Two additional /home (for a total of 6)
  • Two additional /tpad (for a total of 4)
  • Able to place lava (within a claim)
  • /stack - Organize inventory items into stacks more efficiently
  • /hat - Take a block or item in hand and wear it (you fashionista you)
(Architect)
This rank is awarded to players who have built an impressive moderately-sized build composed of non-stone related blocks.

Builds may contain up to 2000-5000 suitable blocks. The build(s) at this stage of the path take inspiration to the shape of the land to heart and adapt to the environment which they are built upon.

Architect builds fall into the 'Woody' path and as such need to be made up of mostly 'high quality' blocks like Wood, Wool, or Leaf blocks and may contain stone blocks as long as the block count does not exceed that of the non-stone blocks.

(Miner)
This rank is awarded to players who have built an impressive moderately-sized build composed of stone related blocks.

Builds may contain up to 2000-5000 suitable blocks. The build(s) at this stage of the path demonstrate hard work against the land and developed to suit the needs of the build rather than coexist with it.

Miner builds fall into the 'Stoney' path and as such need to be made up of mostly stone-based blocks like Cobble, Brick, Prismarine, Nether, End, Ores, and other stone types and may contain non-stone blocks as long as the block count does not exceed that of the stone blocks.

(Techie)
This rank is awarded to players with an early passion for redstone.

Builds can be of a wide variety but must demonstrate at least a basic understanding of redstone beyond 'button on a block' or 'pressure plate in front of door' and its components must be concealed to the best of the player's ability. Typical builds such as automatic crop-type farms enable players to produce items at a greater speed than conventional methods.

Builds must be functional to the needs of the player. If players are doing a single line to a dropper or any type of flying machine, generally another build of the same quality is recommended. If the build uses logic gates and latches, only one is required as long as it serves its purpose for the build.
It is acceptable to follow tutorials of any known Redstoners, either from the server or the interwebs, along with any additional resources about redstone.

(Social)
This rank is awarded to players consisting of 2 or more, all wishing to build together.

This path is a recent addition to previously mentioned paths. This path does not count towards (Master) nor is required for it. This path is has no set restrictions on types of blocks used.

This is advised for players who came to the server with friends/family and love to contribute towards group builds. Additonally, the build(s) for this path must be greater in size compared to the other paths as it consists of more than one player.

Generally 2-3 people must build their FIRST group build together! This may include 3 medium and 5 small builds connected with pathways and the builds must compliment each other in size and design.

In order to obtain this rank, all players must agree that ideas were equally considered.

While block counts provide a general size for the build(s), block counts will be heavily reflected towards any rank of the 'Groupie' path. Ex: Small builds are around 800-1,000 blocks

Tier 2
After having spent a good deal of time working on smaller projects, either starting anew or upgrading a current build, players may obtain the next set of tiered ranks.

These ranks are awarded to players who have produced fairly large, detailed, and attractive builds while remaining committed to improving their building skills.

T2 builds (Artisan/Mason/Cooperative) should look and feel more developed and extensive than that of previous T1 builds. The presentation of T2 builds should be clear and recognizable whether in relation to various areas of a mutiple-structured build or the wholeness of a large individual build.

T2 builds can/should also employ details to incorporate the build(s) into nearby surroundings whether being small structures synonymous with the build or the land.

The second tier of BuildAtNight ranks are:
  • Artisan (Woody Path)
  • Mason (Stoney Path)
  • Engineer (Redstoney Path)
  • Cooperative (Groupie Path)
If a player feels they have met the requirements for any of the T2 ranks, they may stand near their build and request it to be reviewed by a staff member by typing /ticket Please review my build for (t2 rank)! (or something similar).
Please allow some time for staff to review the build(s) as the decisions change at this point in time; staff may seek additional reviews from other members of the server as well as consulting other staff.

Permissions include everything available to all Tier 1 ranks as well as:
  • Two additional /home (for a total of 8)
  • Two additional /tpad (for a total of 6)
  • /jump - travel large distances in the blink of an eye to where you are looking at. (Costs $)
  • /tptoggle - Allow or prevent other players from attempting to teleport to them (does not affect mods or admins)
(Artisan)
This rank is awarded to players who have built an extensive structure, or series or structures composed of non-stone related blocks.

Builds may contain up to 10K - 25K suitable blocks. The build(s) at this stage of the path aspire more than just the lay of the land and seeks to profit from it; the builds take into extreme consideration of the various terrain and have created a work of art from it and continue to inspire others.

Artisan builds fall in the 'Woody' path and as such need to be made up of mostly 'high quality' blocks like Wood, Wool, or Leaf blocks and may contain stone blocks as long as the block count does not exceed that of the non-stone blocks.

(Mason)
This rank is awarded to players who have built an extensive structure, or series or structures composed of mostly stone related blocks.

Builds may contain up to 10K - 25K suitable blocks. The build(s) at this stage of the path desire to break the landscape and establish a clear image of what is built; the blocks used are not only complementary but provide a stark difference to the area and leaves a lasting impression to all who gaze upon it.

Mason builds fall in the 'Stoney' path and as such need to be made up of mostly stone-based blocks like Cobble, Brick, Prismarine, Nether, End, Ores, and other stone types and may contain non-stone blocks as long as the block count does not exceed that of the stone blocks.

(Engineer)
This rank is awarded to players with a developing passion for redstone.

Builds can be of a wide variety, but must demonstrate a proficient understanding of redstone beyond logic gates and latches. This build cannot be mediocre; (Engineer) builds must be neat, with all redstone hidden to the best of the player's ability.

Projects must be planned and the end result should be a type of redstone machinery. It is ideal to move from functional to purposeful as well as remaining true to the player's intentions.
  • Functional builds compliment the build they are suited for such as 3x3 doors with hidden key/lock (Redstone driven by design *Zoom Zoom*)
  • Purposeful builds are created to provide ideal farms or contraptions such as mob farms or storage units (Design driven by redstone)
It is acceptable to follow tutorials of any known Redstoners, either from the server or the interwebs, but must not fully copy the build without any understanding of the redstone used. There may be a chance the player will be questioned about a certain part of the build.

(Cooperative)
This rank is awarded to players consisting of 2 or more contributing equally to an extensive structure, or series or structures with no set restrictions on types of blocks used.

While the rank is similar to what Artisan and Mason requires, it is built with like-minded individuals and show that teamwork make the dream work. This may include 10+ medium builds, and 1-2 large builds within a large area. These builds and pathways must be intertwined and compliment each other in size and design.

In order to obtain this rank, all players must agree that ideas were equally considered.

Tier 3
After achieving Tier 2, players will have spent a large deal of time polishing their skills and making their builds well worth their time.

Players that wish to attain this rank are established members of the server community and may suggest ideas or designs to others while keeping a grander project in mind.

T3 builds should display a pinnacle of greatness through detail and skill and may encompass all previous works along with major improvements.

The focus of this tier must be of great ambition; the player has what it takes to commit to time and resources to create an image from their world and show it proudly to others.

The third tier of BuildAtNight ranks are:
  • Elder ('Treefreak' Path)
  • Grand Mason ('50K Blocks of Gray' Path)
  • Inventor ('The Real MC OG' Path)
  • Coordinator ('OMGIHAZFRENZ' Path)
If a player feels they have met the requirements for any of the T3 ranks, they may stand near their build and request it to be reviewed by a staff member by typing /ticket Please review my build for (t3 rank)! (or something similar).
Please allow some time for staff to review the build(s) as the decisions change at this point in time; the build must be reviewed by a minimum of three staff members, one of which must be admin rank or higher.

Permissions include everything available to all Tier 2 ranks as well as:
  • Two additional /home (for a total of 10)
  • Two additional /tpad (for a total of 8)
  • Keep any experience normally lost upon death
  • No restriction while in the process of teleporting
  • /tpa - Allow to teleport to other players with their permission (does not work if a player has /tptoggle enabled)
  • /co i - Able to inspect blocks; who placed/removed, when, and where
  • /back - Now able to return to deathpoint on death
(Elder)
This rank is awarded to players who have built an elaborate set of structures composed of non-stone related blocks.

Builds may contain up to 30K - 50K suitable blocks. The build(s) at this stage of the path are works of art; like how an artist can create a picture from a blank canvas, the player too can take any barren plain to a bustling town with all its intricacies.

A good example for this path may contain a backstory or lore built along with it; much like any creation, there is a story associated with it. The player is the storymaker, they portray events that have arised and motivate visitors to seek other parts of the story.

Elder builds fall in the 'Woody' path and as such need to be made up of mostly 'high quality' blocks like Wood, Wool, or Leaf blocks and may contain stone blocks as long as the block count does not exceed that of the non-stone blocks.

(Grand Mason)
This rank is awarded to players who have built an elaborate set of structures composed of stone related blocks.

Builds may contain up to 30K - 50K suitable blocks. The build(s) at this stage of the path dare to eliminate traces of nature by laying down a foundation that define a player's hard work to produce great structures made of stone related blocks.

Similar to the (Elder) rank, a story may be necessary, such as in the case of dungeons and castles. How the player wants to create a vivid lore is up to their imagination; tell others of the wonders!

Grand Mason builds fall in the 'Stoney' path and as such need to be made up of mostly stone-based blocks like Cobble, Brick, Prismarine, Nether, End, Ores, and other stone types and may contain non-stone blocks as long as the block count does not exceed that of the stone blocks.

(Inventor)
This rank is awarded to players who have mastered the use of redstone.

Their developing passon has now grown into a hunger, the player can now foresee future mechanisms and they bring their ideas to life. This rank requires experience and competence. The builds must be outstanding and mind blowing, with all redstone hidden to the best of the player's ability.

Projects must be well planned and the end result should be a redstone masterpiece. The clear goal of this rank is to show originality and care to the complexity of redstone. The more 'inventive' the player is, with regards to the redstone build presented, the more the build will shock and awe the staff.

It is advised that builds for this rank must be kept as close as possible as an original work by the player, keeping in mind that it may look similar to previously known Redstoners or their work. Players must challenge themselves to create something that the community may enjoy using or simply amazed every time they are reminded of it.

(Coordinator)
This rank is awarded to players consisting of 2 or more who prefer to build in groups and focus on teamwork to create elaborate set of structures with no set restrictions on types of blocks used.

All players helped each other to create something they could not accomplish alone; a true building team may create wonderful and dazzling builds in a span of few weeks rather than months. A good measure for how large the area needs to be is the inclusion of multiple region posts within build(s).

Similar to (Elder) and (Grand Mason), the players involved not only show off their work but their faults and their accomplishments echo throughout their builds and inspire new teams to build together.

In order to obtain this rank, all players must agree that ideas were equally considered.

Special Ranks
In addition to the ranks paths there are several special ranks on BuildAtNight.

Generally, earning these ranks requires significant investment and commitment or other special circumstances within the server.

(Master)
This rank is awarded to players who have accomplished the unimaginable; obtaining all tiered paths, not including 'Groupie' Path.

When the conditions for (Master) has been met, the player may then choose a title befitting them; they may choose any acceptable title that is not currently taken and must be appropriate in the server. Additional information such as the color of the title and ( ) is recommended but not required. If the player does not specify either name of title or color, they will be given default (Master) title and colors.

What is next after (Master)? Nothing, there is no new game+. The player has achieved one of the end goals of the server and the next viable step is to encourage others to follow; supporting the community and continue to show a positive attitude towards building and having fun.

Permissions include everything available to all Tier 3 ranks as well as:
  • ?? additional /home (for a total of ??)
  • ?? additional /tpad (for a total of ??)
  • /tp - Able to teleport to any player, without their permission (does not work if a player has /tp toggle enable)
  • /rank (player) Builder - Able to rank (Player) to (Builder) as long as the requirements for (Builder) are met.
  • *Other Secrets*
(Veteran)

This rank is accessible to a select few.

BuildatNight has been operating for 2 years and to show our appreciation to our humble roots any verifiable person who played on Fishycraft is eligible for the Veteran rank.

The benefits are slightly less than Tier 3; however, a Tier 3 ranked player may request to keep (Veteran) and still maintain all Tier 3 permissions.

(Mayor)
This rank is challenging and time consuming; it requires dedication and a passion for helping new players into the server as well as maintaining a positive attitude with other members of the server.

In order to qualify for (Mayor), a player must already be ranked to any of the Tier 2 ranks. Often players can make it to that rank by building their towns and willing to create a community within.

A player must build and run a functional town with several 'new' player residents. Towns may offer grid plots, but it is advised to add diversity and ambiance when creating the town, such as a theme or restriction of certain types of blocks or different sized plots in different terrain.

Towns may have many amenities including:
  • A town hall where town rules and requirements are posted
  • Nice pathways to make navigating easier
  • Several open plots available for prospective residents
  • Accessible public farms as a way to gather early resources for new players; this may include tree farms, any food farms, any mob exp farms
Players are expected to assume the responsibilities of (Mayor) and may apply for the rank once they have ~10 new active players in their town. Players who cannot perform the duties of a mayor without the title rarely perform them after getting the title.
In the case of group builds, only one player may obtain the rank, otherwise each player must be responsible of their own towns and may provide assistance to anyone wishing to attain the rank.

(Youtuber)
This rank is awarded to players who posts youtube videos on a regular basis of/about our server!

Some examples of the types of videos a player can post are:
  • Promotional
  • LetsPlays
  • Basic Gameplay
The requirements are:
  • The rank does have an age limit, and that is 15+ years of age
  • The player must have at least 10 videos prior to receiving the rank
  • The player must make at least 2 videos per month
  • To keep the rank the player has to show great interest and tons of EFFORT
  • The player must be at least Tier 1 of any path
  • Being active is key to this rank

(Staff)

At BuildatNight, we take the concept of staff seriously. We offer the promise of 'Mature staff' not based on age but on attitude.

We define 'maturity' as treating other people with respect, being patient in times of stress, and being able to work well with others.

Players considered for staff must have a strong desire to help other people. Staff in this server is not about being able to mute or ban, its about helping people enjoy Minecraft. Although there are high expectations of staff, they are people too, here to enjoy this game and may not always be available the moment a player needs them.
There are no applications for this rank.
